So with today's topic, I am going to be candidly honest with you. When it comes to keeping my priorities in check, it is a constant and everyday struggle!
I know right this can't possibly be the case for me, but trust it is…
Since starting my website, I have found that my time management sucks tremendously. Not only that, but when overwhelmed by all my responsibilities, I become extremely agitated and attempt to isolate myself from others.
There is something about realizing what you have to do, along with the things that are thrown on you, not too mention everything you want to do yourself can be more than a notion. I got tired just thinking and attempting to say all of that out loud!
When it comes to getting our priorities in check, it will forever be a never ending process. It is something we must do on a continual basis.
You see not only am I running HeyMzLady, but I am also working a very demanding full time job as well. Ultimately, I am working two jobs, but only getting paid for one, with the idea of sleep seeming like a distant memory. And as though that wasn't enough, being a daughter, friend, mentor and now entrepreneur just adds even more to my plate.
However, don't look at what I'm saying as a complaint.
Trust me, I love what I do.
Being able to help and inspire others gives me a natural high like no other. But I often realize that in order for me to keep going, I have to learn to not only keep my priorities in check, but also relinquish control.
I can’t do it all and that’s okay!
I'm a planner by nature. I like for things to be organized and structured as much as possible. And when I see these things fall short it sometimes can send me into a tizzy to say the least.
My heart starts beating fast, I begin to feel pressure in my head and even the slightest task will drive me up the wall.
But what I have learned, and hopefully what can be a great resource for you, is that sometimes less is more.
I know right, you were expecting some grand secret huh?
Short, simple and straight to the point.
In learning to get my priorities in order, I began to realize that I must acknowledge and explore the many things cluttering my life at the current moment. After doing so, I begin I breakdown the clutter of my life into 4 simple categories. These categories include:
1. What's my role?
- Who am I and what is my position(s) I play in life?
2. What needs my immediate attention?
- How important or necessary is this on my personal totem pole?
3. Things I can come back to...
- Doesn't really need my attention at this moment, but is definitely something I need to address at a later date…
4. Not my problem!
- At the end of the day this has little to no affect on my life whatsoever!
In almost every aspect of my life I can come back to these simple categories and place everything into proper perspective.
In helping my clients to get their priorities in order, I usually walk them through this same process. In completing this exercise on a daily basis, I must admit it is interesting to see how this helps to remove much of the pressures and anxieties we endure.
Depending on where your mindset has been lately, I'm pretty sure it has reflected where your priorities have lied.
The balancing act of life can be very fickle. With the many hats we as women wear it's no wonder we don't kill ourselves in the process by constantly over extending ourselves to people, things or circumstances that really don't require our assistance at all.
When we take on more than is required or even allow our mind to stayed fixated on a situation for too long it becomes our main priority. And unfortunately, these are usually things that have taken more precedents over are actual priorities that needs our attention.
Time appears to be flying by pass us at such rapid speeds. With the first quarter of the year gone already what can you look back on and say you have accomplished? Have you been able to keep your priorities in check? Or have you allowed everything and everyone to take higher precedents over you?
My suggestion, take some time to really identify and sort out the clutter in your life. After you are able to do so place each item within one of the 4 categories. After you get a visual representation of what your life really looks like, I wonder if it would help keep your priorities in order more often...
It is easy to keep our schedules booked with things to keep us busy. The real challenge is being productive instead!
Your priorities are important to you and your journey.
Make sure you and not anything else doesn't stand in the way of doing so…
As always Ladies stay beautiful, blessed and divinely favored!
